ITINERARY OF THE 8 DAY WILDLIFE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE
Day 1. Nairobi
Arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International airport in Nairobi. Reception by Ontdek Kenya and transfer to the Nairobi Safari Club or equivalent hotel in Nairobi.
Day 2, 3 + 4. Wildlife safari travel in Amboseli
After breakfast we head south east of Nairobi towards the Amboseli National Park.
Amboseli is at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro and has the advantage of having many swamps that are fed by underground rivers coming from the mountain. Its beauty lies in seeing the big game including the elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, impalas, Grant’s gazelles and elands with the backdrop of the snow-capped Kilimanjaro. This is a place for great photos justifying our tour as a photography safari.
Kenya Wildlife safari travel in Amboseli, Kenya: 2 male lions
With 425 species of birds, our 3 days here should be able to give us a chance to see Vultures, Eagles, Bustards, Sandgrouses, Ground Hornbills, Rosy-breasted Longclaw, Sooty Chat, Falcons, Barn Owl, Spotted Redshank, Temminck’s Stint, Saddle-billed Stork and the hyperactive Black Crake.
Overnights at the Ol Tukai Lodge, Kilima Camp or equivalent.
Day 5 + 6. Wildlife safari travel in Tsavo
After a pre-breakfast safari we’ll drive through open bush country dotted with acacia trees on our way to Tsavo National Park.
This is the largest national park in Kenya, divided into Tsavo West and East by the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Coming to Tsavo, immediately after Amboseli, presents us with an opportunity to compare how similar species of wildlife look different just because of their habitat. The elephants of Tsavo are of a deeper color than those of Amboseli. Again while in Amboseli the joy was in seeing the elephant families in the open plains, in Tsavo it is the surprise of seeing a family at the least expected moment emerging from the bush.
Safari travel in Tsavo – the Rosy-patched Bush Shrike
For 2 days enjoy extended but relaxed game drives looking out for all the big game + wild cats as well as plains game such as zebras, gazelles and giraffes.
We stay for 2 nights at the Severin Safari Camp, a luxury tented camp with superb sightings on the surrounding hills.
Day 7. Wildlife Safari travel in the Swara Plains
This 20,000 acres ranch is old wild Africa at its very best: wide open savanna grasslands, tall yellow fever trees, endless views, over 3000 resident population of easy to see plains game and +270 Kenyan bird species. Swara Plains is part of the Tsavo-Amboseli eco-system and with exception of elephants, rhinos and buffaloes all the other plains game found in Tsavo and Amboseli are found here. You will see big herds of oryx, elands, wildebeests, giraffes, monkeys, hartebeests, zebras, impalas, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelles, warthogs and the occasional gerenuk (= Giraffe-neck gazelle) away from mass tourism. The number of visitors to the ranch is deliberately kept small by having a camp (Acacia camp) with only 13 rustic and still comfortable bandas (= cottages) making this a place to see game without being surrounded by safari mini buses.
