Itinerary:
Day 1 Durban to St Lucia
Collect your car and begin your ‘KZN’ adventure with a drive north to the coastal town of St Lucia.
Day 2 St Lucia
Located at the southern end of World Heritage-listed iSimangaliso Wetland Park, St Lucia provides a great base for wildlife and nature activities. Embark on a thrilling Hippo Cruise for the chance to see these impressive creatures up close in their natural habitat, or perhaps opt for a turtle tour or snorkelling at Cape Vidal.
Days 3-4 St Lucia to Thanda Private Game Reserve
Journey into the heart of KwaZulu-Natal’s big game country for a stay at the stylish Thanda Tented Camp. Enjoy game drives in search of the elusive cheetah, hyena and of course the Big 5.
Days 5-6 Thanda Private Game Reserve to Isandlwana
After a final morning game drive, continue inland to the famous battlefield site at Isandlwana. Join a local historian on a thought-provoking tour of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, the most infamous and turbulent of the Anglo-Zulu battles.
Days 7-8 Isandlwana to Spioenkop
Today, as you journey alongside the many notable battlefield sites that line this route, stop to enjoy a walking trail or visit a local Zulu village. The fierce Anglo-Boer battle at Spioenkop took place here, so join an informative tour one afternoon to re-live that fatal day in history.
Days 9-10 Spioenkop to the Central Drakensberg
Opt for a thrilling rhino-tracking bush walk this morning, before continuing west towards the impressive rolling hills, sparkling lakes and panoramic viewpoints of the Drakensberg Mountains. Explore the area by mountain bike or on horseback, try your hand at trout fishing, enjoy a picnic with a view or zip along on a canopy tour through lush indigenous forest.
Days 11-12 The Central Drakensberg to Howick, Midlands Meander
Spend the next couple of days exploring the surrounding area near Howick, affectionately known as the Midlands Meander. Indulge in some afternoon tea and cake in one of the charming tea rooms, sample local produce including homemade cheeses and beers and browse for souvenirs in one of the many craft shops or art galleries.
Days 13-14 Howick, Midlands Meander to Ballito
It’s time for a well-earned rest on the golden sands of the Dolphin Coast. Relax by the pool, take a stroll along the promenade or visit popular Willards Beach.
Day 15 Ballito to Durban
Draw your KwaZulu-Natal adventure to a close with a short drive back to Durban airport for your onward flight.
